Privacy Policy for Orbit

Last updated: August 2026

Orbit ("the app," "we," "our") is a solar system and space exploration app for iOS. This policy explains what information the app accesses, why, and how it's used. We built Orbit to work with as little personal data as possible.

Location

Orbit's Sky Map feature uses your device's location to calculate which stars and planets are visible in the sky from where you are, at the current time. This calculation happens entirely on your device. Your location is not transmitted to us, stored on any server, or shared with any third party.

Camera

Sky Map uses your device's motion and orientation tracking system, which relies on the camera internally for accuracy — but no camera image, video, or photo is ever captured, displayed, stored, or transmitted. The camera feed itself is never shown to you or saved anywhere; it's used only to help the app know which direction your phone is pointing.

Subscriptions and Purchases

Orbit offers an optional premium subscription, processed through Apple's App Store and managed with RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management service. When you subscribe, standard purchase and transaction information (such as your subscription status and renewal dates) is shared with RevenueCat to verify your purchase and unlock premium features. We do not receive your payment details — those are handled entirely by Apple.

You can review RevenueCat's own privacy practices at revenuecat.com/privacy.

NASA Data

Orbit pulls publicly available data from NASA's open APIs (such as the Astronomy Picture of the Day, Mars Rover photos, and space weather data) to show real, current content. These requests do not include any personal information about you — they're simple content lookups, the same as visiting a public webpage.

What We Don't Do

Children's Privacy

Orbit does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app is designed to be safe and educational for users of all ages.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Orbit after changes means you accept the updated policy.
